Tricky Tips for a Happy Halloween

Halloween is a fun filled night of candy, costumes and silly scares, but you need to take extra precaution to ensure you and your family has a safe night.

1. Don’t Go Solo. Children 12 and under should always be accompanied by an adult. Going in a group is safer and more fun!

2. Be seen. Crowded streets on a dark night can be very dangerous. Make your group as visible as possible by using brightly colored costumes, reflective tape, flashlights or glow sticks.

3. Be A Smart Walker. The tradition of walking door to door does not mean common street safety is eliminated. Make sure to stay on the sidewalks, and be cautious while crossing the road. If on a street with no sidewalks, walk on the edge and always face traffic.

4. Drive Carefully. Be alert and drive slowly in residential neighborhoods, especially between the prime time hours for trick or treating, which is usually 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm.

5. Comb Through Candy. Make sure to inspect your children’s candy prior to them eating. Throw away any that are unwrapped, loosely packaged, or homemade.

We hope these tips keep you and your little monsters safe on a spooktacular night!
