Summer Safety Tips for Drivers & Pedestrians

COVID-19 extremely altered our daily lives and led to changes of how we spend our time. One trending change we continue to see is the increase of time spent outdoors. Leave No Trace for Outdoor Ethics and Pennsylvania State University released data about this trend and found that people are going out more, and 50% said they are staying within 2 miles of their homes. 37.7% of respondents said that their increased time outdoors will only continue.

With the increase in outdoor exposure comes the increase of traffic. From bikers to joggers, people of all ages are now forced to share sidewalks and roads. Take this time to be more alert of those around you while driving and ensure you help to keep everyone safe with these tips:

  • Slow down in pedestrian areas
  • Take weather into account while behind the wheel
  • Be aware of areas where children play
  • Avoid distractions
  • Always give pedestrians the right of way
